DC Suburb Expands Voting Rights to Children Since They’re Guaranteed to be Naive Democrat Voters

In a further effort to cement permanent one-party Democrat rule over the area surrounding the nation’s capital, a Washington, DC, suburb has just lowered the voting age to allow 16-year-old children to vote. The Town Council of Cheverly, which is about 15 minutes outside of DC, voted unanimously to allow youngsters who have never paid taxes, who don’t understand what a property mill tax rate is, and in many cases, don’t even have a driver’s license yet, to vote.

The DC suburbs of Greenbelt, Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, and Takoma Park have already passed similar measures. Glenarden, MD, lowered the voting age to 16 in 2016, but it backfired on them. When too many kids in the town unexpectedly voted for Donald Trump, they raised the voting age back up to 18 in 2017.

Bad kids! Bad! Weren’t they paying attention in school as their teachers were explaining every day what a white supremacist extremist Donald Trump is?!

“This charter amendment marks a pivotal moment for our town,” said Cheverly Mayor Kayce Munyeneh. “By extending voting rights to youth at age 16, we are empowering the next generation to actively participate in shaping the future of Cheverly.”

Uh… didn’t Americans already empower the next generation to participate in shaping the future when we passed the 26th Amendment, which lowered the voting age to 18? That was such a great idea that Vivek Ramaswamy campaigned on raising the voting age back up to 18 since people who haven’t finished college or started families yet really shouldn’t have much of a say in public policy.

“Their voices matter,” continued Mayor Munyeneh. “This amendment reflects our commitment to inclusivity and the democratic process.”

Can we get real here? Children’s voices do not matter when it comes to public policy. The voices of teenagers especially do not matter when it comes to running a city, a county, a state, or a country. Even the most highly intelligent teenagers are not ready to vote yet because they lack the life experience to understand how the world works.

This isn’t about increasing engagement in the civic process or whatever talking points the Democrats are always using. It’s about expanding the base of gullible, naïve, and compliant voters because a huge majority of Americans are opposed to the Democrat Party’s insane policies. The only reason the Democrats even exist as a party in 2023 is because they keep expanding the definition of who can vote in American elections.

It’s why they want amnesty and immediate voting rights for the 20 million illegal aliens (and counting) that Joe Biden has allowed in the country. They realize that the majority of those illegals come from socialist countries and will be eager, compliant voters for the Democrat Party. The principles of American conservatism, let alone the US Constitution, are as foreign to these invaders as the invaders are to our country.

Democrats understand this, and that’s why they always want to expand the voter rolls to include younger and younger voters, as well as felons behind bars. Teenagers are usually far more likely to support left-leaning causes and politicians since they sit for seven or eight hours a day in indoctrination chambers with socialist teachers scaring them about global warming and white supremacy.

Congress has the power to enforce the 26th Amendment. If Republicans were smart about this, they would ban municipalities and other areas from lowering the voting age below 18. Age 18 is probably too young anyway, but we shouldn’t allow Democrats to lower it even further.
