Gingrich Mocks Democrats—‘They Look Like Fools’ Doing This

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says it’s not even a fair fight anymore: Trump’s Cabinet is clobbering Democrats at congressional hearings, and it’s showing just how unprepared the opposition has become.

In a Wednesday interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Gingrich ripped into Democratic lawmakers for their “lazy” and “out of touch” performances during recent grilling sessions with FBI Director Kash Patel and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“President Trump picks brilliant people,” Gingrich said. “They know what they are doing. They do their homework. They actually have achieved real things. And they are up against a group of people who are lazy, out of touch with reality, don’t do their homework, and set themselves up to look like fools.”

Two hearings this week highlighted the disparity. During a House Financial Services Committee session, Bessent triggered Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) by quipping about Biden’s mental state—reigniting concerns that plagued the Democrat’s first term and were confirmed by a 2024 Wall Street Journal report on how Biden’s aides shielded him from even Cabinet members.

Meanwhile, at the House Appropriations Committee, Patel locked horns with Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) over budget allocations for the FBI. Dean accused Patel of perjury, and Patel promptly shot back, accusing her of lying for fundraising. The exchange went viral, with many conservatives applauding Patel’s no-nonsense rebuttal.

“If you’re a Democrat and you pick a fight with Kash Patel, you better be ready to lose,” Gingrich warned, praising Patel’s toughness and intelligence.

The longtime GOP leader added that these repeated embarrassments point to a deeper issue within the Democratic ranks: no preparation, no strategy, and no results. “They’re not getting trained. Their staffs aren’t doing a good job. They show up and think, ‘I’m an elected official, look how smart I’ll be.’ And then they embarrass themselves.”

According to Gingrich, the hearings are becoming a highlight reel of Democratic dysfunction.

“It’s like watching a basketball game where on every pass it goes by them because they didn’t quite notice the ball was coming,” he said. “The Democratic Party has degenerated dramatically.”

That degeneration, Gingrich argues, is being exposed by Trump’s hand-picked team of high-performing appointees, who come to hearings armed with data, direct answers, and often devastating comebacks.

As Republicans continue to dominate the messaging battle in these high-profile hearings, Gingrich says it might be time for the Democrats who are “serious” to tell their colleagues to sit out unless they can “do their homework.”

With more hearings on the horizon and increasing scrutiny of Biden-era policies, the GOP’s cabinet leaders appear eager to keep the spotlight—and the Democrats, once again, seem woefully unready.
