GOP Push New Strategy To Crush Illegals

House Republicans are taking a stand against sanctuary cities. A new bill, introduced by Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., aims to cut federal funding to cities like Los Angeles that refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This move follows violent riots in Los Angeles, highlighting the dangers of sanctuary policies.
The Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act, set for introduction on Tuesday, has a Senate companion bill led by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. It would empower the executive branch to withhold federal funds from states, cities, or localities that defy ICE. This legislation seeks to enforce federal immigration laws and protect American citizens.
Langworthy emphasized the urgency of the bill. “We’ve had far too many instances where we have someone lose their lives at the hands of someone that’s in this country illegally,” he told Fox News Digital. He criticized sanctuary cities for ignoring federal law, stating, “It’s time that we get serious and we put teeth to things.”
The bill also allows state and local officers to work with federal authorities, even if local laws prohibit such cooperation. This provision is critical in places like Buffalo, where New York’s Green Light Law hampers ICE efforts. The law grants driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and blocks state DMV records from federal access.
Langworthy shared concerns from ICE and Customs and Border Patrol agents in Buffalo. “They said this is the largest impediment they have to do their jobs,” he noted, explaining that agents cannot run vehicle tags during traffic stops. This puts officers’ lives at risk during every apprehension.
Recent violence in Los Angeles underscores the bill’s necessity. Rioters clashed with federal authorities over ICE raids, smashing windows at LAPD headquarters. Democratic leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, criticized President Donald Trump for deploying the National Guard, while Republicans accused progressives of enabling chaos.
California’s Lt. Governor claimed the riots were “generated by Donald Trump,” a statement Republicans reject. They argue sanctuary policies fuel unrest by protecting illegal immigrants, including criminals. The bill aims to curb such policies, ensuring communities prioritize public safety.
Langworthy hopes the violence remains contained. “I think the president setting the tone very early on, this will not be tolerated,” he said. He praised Trump’s decision to federalize the National Guard, adding, “Hopefully that is heard loud and clear across the country by anyone that looks to bring unrest.”
The bill’s supporters see it as a critical step to restore order. Sanctuary cities, they argue, endanger Americans by shielding illegal immigrants from deportation. By empowering local officers and cutting funds, the legislation aims to dismantle these dangerous policies.
Republicans are united in their resolve. The bill reflects a broader commitment to secure borders and uphold the rule of law. As Langworthy noted, the stakes are high: “We will maintain law and order in the streets of our country.”
This legislation sends a clear message. Sanctuary cities must comply with federal law or face consequences. Republicans stand firm, prioritizing the safety of American citizens over progressive ideologies that threaten communities.
