Four hundred masked men in matching khakis marched through Washington, D.C. on the Fourth of July carrying American flags and Confederate battle flags — some of the American flags inverted. They moved in military-style formation, faces covered, uniforms identical, looking less like a grassroots movement and more like a unit that received the same supply shipment on the same day.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna wants to know who's paying for it. Democrats, strangely, do not.
Luna, a Republican representing Florida's 13th Congressional District, called for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to formally investigate Patriot Front's organization and funding. "What I find odd about Patriot Front is how under Biden they were never investigated. Well funded. Never investigated," Luna posted on social media. She followed up with a pointed comparison: "FBI under Biden looked into Catholics instead. So, looks like @GOPoversight should do some digging."
She's not wrong about the contrast. The FBI under the Biden administration opened investigative threads on traditional Catholic parishes while a 400-person organization that stages choreographed marches through the nation's capital somehow never attracted serious federal scrutiny. The Anti-Defamation League classifies Patriot Front as a white supremacist organization. The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks them as a hate group. Both organizations have extensive files.
So you'd think Democrats — the party that spent the last several years telling us white supremacist domestic terrorism is the greatest threat facing America — would be first in line demanding answers about who funds a 400-person masked paramilitary-style march through D.C. You'd think the same members of Congress who wanted investigations into parents at school board meetings would want to know how a group this organized stays this well-funded with zero apparent scrutiny.
The silence is the story. Every Republican who's ever attended a rally has been asked to denounce, disavow, and distance. Every conservative organization that's ever held a protest has had its donor rolls subpoenaed. But a group that marches through the capital in formation, wearing identical gear, with faces deliberately hidden — that group gets a pass from the party that sees fascism behind every corner.
Luna's request is simple. She's not asking anyone to assume conclusions. She's asking for an investigation — the same tool Democrats have used as a weapon for years. Look into the funding. Look into the organization. If Patriot Front is what the ADL and SPLC say it is, a formal probe should be the easiest bipartisan vote in Congress.
The fact that it isn't tells you more than any investigation could.
