El-Sayed Supporter Shoved a Jewish Woman to the Ground and Said She Should Have Killed Her. Police Let Her Go Hours Later.

As Michigan votes today, a video from the University of Michigan campus is making the rounds.

It shows a student shoving Liz Benichou, a Jewish conservative activist, to the ground on Saturday. Then, while police take her away, the student yells: "I should have killed her when I had the chance!"

Benichou had been on campus talking with students about Islam and Western values. During an argument with the student, Benichou asked her: "If you walked around in Iran like this, what would happen to you?"

The student answered by putting her on the ground.

She didn't calm down once police had her. When people nearby said she was sick and needed a mental hospital, she said she'd already been to one and would "go again if it means killing her."

Independent journalist Cam Higby, who filmed the incident, identified the student as a supporter of Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrats' Senate nominee in Michigan.

University police said she was "taken into custody, processed and released pending warrant authorization." So she was back out the same day, and prosecutors haven't decided yet whether to charge her. Benichou's manager says Benichou hurt her lower back and plans to press charges.

"Today, I was physically assaulted simply for showing up and exercising my First Amendment rights," Benichou said. "If the intention was to intimidate me or silence me, it will not work."

A Jewish woman asked a question about Iran and got shoved to the ground. The woman who did it said on camera that she wished she'd killed her, and she was released before anyone decided whether she'd face a single charge.

El-Sayed's campaign hasn't commented.

It's been that kind of campaign. A PAC ad blaming American aid to Israel for Michigan's grocery prices ran on El-Sayed's side, and he wouldn't condemn it. He campaigned with Hasan Piker, a streamer who called a Jewish Michigan suburb a "KKK neighborhood" last week, and called those comments merely "inappropriate." Rep. Haley Stevens, a fellow Democrat, was so fed up that she endorsed his Republican opponent.

Now one of El-Sayed's supporters has been caught on camera attacking a Jewish woman and saying she should have killed her. As of today, El-Sayed hasn't said anything about that either.

Michigan voters are choosing a senator today. Liz Benichou is dealing with a hurt back and a death threat caught on video. The woman who attacked her went home the same day.
