Even New Jersey's Democrat Governor Admits the Newark Protesters Are Professional Agitators

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill — a Democrat, mind you — is now publicly blaming out-of-state agitators for inflaming the chaos outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark. That's right. A Democrat governor just used the "outside agitators" line that her own party has spent years calling a right-wing conspiracy theory.

Funny how that works. When conservatives point out that protest mobs are bused in from other states, we're paranoid. When a Democrat governor needs political cover because her state looks like a war zone, suddenly it's an official explanation delivered at a Saturday press conference.

Here's what went down. Protests outside Delaney Hall — a privately run ICE detention center in Newark — have been escalating all week, with demonstrators chanting "No more ICE!" and "Free them all!" while clashing with federal agents. Inside, hundreds of detainees launched a hunger strike, and nearly 300 signed a letter complaining about food quality and medical care. Sherrill herself showed up on Memorial Day demanding access to the facility — and got denied. "My request for access to Delaney Hall was formally denied this morning, raising serious questions about what they are trying to hide from public view," she told reporters.

A DHS spokesperson fired back beautifully, calling Sherrill's visit "nothing more than a political stunt on Memorial Day, when visitation is currently suspended due to riots outside the facility." Ouch.

But then the situation got too hot even for Sherrill's political calculations. By Friday night, New Jersey State Police had to move in. They issued 15-minute, 10-minute, and 5-minute dispersal warnings before clearing the area. Six people were arrested — and five of the six were from outside New Jersey. State Police confirmed the out-of-staters came from New York and Pennsylvania.

Sherrill held a press conference on Saturday, May 30th, and dropped the line we've been waiting for: "Five of the six people arrested last night by State Police were from outside New Jersey." She added that "some national extremist groups have become involved in the protests here today." Then came the kicker: "To the people coming from out of state to create chaos and dangerous situations, you should not be here."

National extremist groups. Out-of-state chaos agents. Sound familiar? That's exactly what conservatives have been saying about Antifa-style protest tourism for years. Welcome to our side of the argument, Governor.

Newark slapped a 9 p.m. curfew around Delaney Hall by Sunday. One of the arrested agitators was 26-year-old Brendan John Geier of Madison, who was charged with assaulting federal officers and — this is real — biting an officer. Because nothing says "peaceful protest" like sinking your teeth into a cop.

Meanwhile, the split-screen political theater is chef's kiss. Sherrill spent the first half of the week trying to score points against ICE by demanding facility access and calling for Delaney Hall's closure. She said she has "long opposed private detention facilities." Reps. Rob Menendez Jr., Frank Pallone Jr., and a parade of New Jersey Democrats joined her in demanding the facility shut down. Then the protests turned violent, the arrests started, and suddenly Sherrill pivoted from "ICE is hiding something" to "these protesters aren't even from here."

Pick a lane, Governor.

The left-wing streamer Hasan Piker even blasted Sherrill from the left for sending in State Police, which tells you everything about where the Democratic Party is right now — so fractured that a governor can't even clear a riot without getting attacked by her own side.

This is the Democrats' problem in a nutshell. They lit the match on anti-ICE hysteria, and now they're shocked — shocked! — that professional agitators showed up to fan the flames. Sherrill wanted the photo op of standing against ICE. She didn't want the burning cars and bitten cops that come with it.

Too late. You built it, Governor. They came.
