Vanessa Behrendt, a mother of two and family policy spokesperson for the Alternative for Germany party in the Lower Saxony state parliament, posted on X on October 20, 2024 that the Rainbow flag had become a symbol for "the machinations of pedophile lobby groups" and "the endangerment of children through LGBTQ propaganda." For that, the Göttingen Public Prosecutor's Office has charged her with Volksverhetzung — Germany's hate speech law — carrying up to two years in prison.

The man who filed the complaint runs a forum for pedophiles.

His name is Florian Viets. He is 39 years old, based in the Norderstedt-Hamburg area, and operates under the online moniker "Consuela" — complete with an avatar of a young girl holding a "MAP" flag. MAP stands for "Minor-Attracted Person," which is the term pedophilia advocates have rebranded themselves with. Viets runs mapsupport.de, a Mastodon-hosted forum with over 300 participants, and a second website called wir-sind-auch-menschen.de — "We Are Also Human" — dedicated to normalizing the condition. He has ties to academic circles at the University of Göttingen's Pädagogisches Seminar and the University of Hildesheim.

So a self-described pedophilia activist with a forum, a brand, and university connections filed a legal complaint against a sitting member of parliament for saying children should be protected from people like him. And the state accepted the complaint and opened a prosecution.

Behrendt had also referenced "Krumme 13," a convicted pedophile group documented attending LGBT Pride events, and pointed to MAP flags displayed at those same events. Viets alleged that after Behrendt posted his name and location in February 2025, 152 death threats followed. That allegation became the basis for an additional charge of dissemination of personal data.

Behrendt responded directly. "I neither called for violence nor announced specific criminal offenses. I stand by my posts and consider them protected by freedom of expression." She added that the proceedings "clearly serve the purpose of intimidating the political opposition and me personally."

Prosecutor Svenja Meininghaus and the Göttingen office filed seven counts total — incitement to hatred, incitement through insults, and insult. The Braunschweig Regional Court has already rejected two of the seven, finding that the offense of incitement to hatred against segments of the population had not been fulfilled. Five remain.

The complaint came from someone who openly campaigns for pedophilia to be recognized as a protected characteristic. The defendant is a legislator who said children should be protected from sexual abuse. The German state looked at both sides and decided the legislator was the problem.

Behrendt previously drew national attention for a viral pro-life speech in the Lower Saxony state parliament criticizing leftist parties on abortion policy. She is not new to being targeted. But this is not a political opponent filing a nuisance suit. This is a pedophilia activist using the machinery of the state to punish a woman for saying his movement endangers children — and the machinery cooperated.

Five charges. Up to two years. For opposing pedophilia in a country where the complaint mechanism now functions as a weapon for the people it was supposedly designed to restrain.
