Hunter Biden collected $83,333 per month from Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings while living in a Washington, D.C. apartment with a homeless crack dealer he called "Bicycles." The 56-year-old former first son shared this detail casually on the Dopey podcast — an addiction-themed show — in an episode published August 28, 2026.

The requirement for that million-dollar-a-year board seat? Four meetings.

Hunter told host David Manheim that the Burisma gig required almost nothing. "The requirement of the board would be that I would show up for four meetings a year," he said. "Even when I was a crack addict and out of my mind. I could show up for four meetings a year." That's roughly $250,000 per appearance. For a man who, by his own admission, had asked a homeless person to sell him crack and teach him how to smoke it.

Burisma brought Hunter onto its board in the spring of 2014, when his father Joe Biden was Vice President of the United States. The starting salary was $1 million per year. It dropped to approximately $500,000 annually in March 2017 — two months after Joe Biden left the vice presidency. Funny how that works. Hunter remained on the board until 2019, collecting payments the entire time.

And Joe Biden knew exactly what was happening. Hunter described his father showing up at the D.C. apartment — located near 11th and New Hampshire — twice during this period. "My dad showed up. He literally showed up at the house twice," Hunter said. "He literally, you know, would drive over with a, you know, with a motorcade." Joe Biden tried to keep it discreet, making the procession "as small as he could possibly make it," but still rolled up with approximately six SUVs and Secret Service agents.

Picture that for a second. The Vice President of the United States pulls a motorcade up to a crack house in the nation's capital. Knocks on the door. His son answers, visibly struggling. Joe Biden asks, "Please, like, what are we gonna do tomorrow? What's the plan?" And then he leaves. And the Burisma checks keep coming.

Hunter's spiral didn't stay in Washington. He eventually traveled to Los Angeles and holed up at the Chateau Marmont — the same hotel where John Belushi overdosed — for approximately two months. He described the stay as an attempt at suicide "without having the courage to do it," saying he figured he "might as well go out with a bang."

The usual defense from the Biden orbit has been that Hunter's addiction was a private family matter — a health struggle, not a political one. Which might hold up if the health struggle weren't bankrolled by a Ukrainian oligarch's energy company paying the Vice President's son a seven-figure salary for four annual appearances. That's not a private matter. That's a conflict of interest with a crack pipe attached.

Perhaps the most telling details is that Hunter reports that his salary dropped by half almost immediately after Joe Biden left office in January 2017. Hunter stayed on the board two more years anyway, until 2019.
