LeBron James Practices His Golf Swing During the National Anthem — Trump Responds Exactly How You'd Expect

LeBron James — four championships, four NBA teams, and apparently zero seconds of patience for the national anthem — was caught on camera practicing his golf swing while the Star-Spangled Banner played before a Philadelphia 76ers game on October 22nd. Not looking away. Not fidgeting. Actively pantomiming a backswing.

President Trump saw the footage.

"While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country! I said right from the beginning that he's no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE," Trump posted, before following up: "LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!"

This isn't new territory for either man. Trump called LeBron a "bum" back in 2017. In June 2026, after LeBron's move to the 76ers, Trump mused publicly — "maybe he's a racist, but maybe he doesn't like Trump." On July 24th, he weighed in on the eternal Jordan-vs.-LeBron debate with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, noting Michael Jordan's six championships and Kobe Bryant's five against LeBron's four. The feud has been simmering for nearly a decade. The golf swing turned it back up to a boil.

The incident fits a broader pattern in professional sports. During the WNBA Finals, both teams walked off the court before the anthem for three consecutive games — not a protest against a specific policy, just a blanket refusal to be present for the song. LeBron's December 2023 anthem incident drew similar heat. The through-line isn't complicated: professional athletes who make more in a season than most Americans see in a lifetime have decided standing still for 90 seconds is beneath them.

This is the same man who has publicly carried water for the Chinese Communist Party — silence on Hong Kong, silence on Uyghurs, loud objections when a Houston Rockets GM tweeted support for democracy — gets to lecture the rest of us about American injustice.

Michael Jordan famously said Republicans buy sneakers too. He also stood for every anthem. LeBron is on his fourth team, still chasing Jordan's ring count, and now he's practicing his short game during the song those rings were won under.
