New Study Confirms What Gun Owners Already Knew — More Armed Civilians Means Less Crime

A brand-new survey from the Crime Prevention Research Center just confirmed what every gun-owning American has known since before the ink dried on the Second Amendment: more armed civilians means less crime. The study, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates in mid-May 2026, surveyed 1,000 people of diverse ethnicity, income levels, and political persuasions — and the results are a gut punch to every gun-grabber with a Twitter account.

The study the anti-gun lobby will pretend doesn't exist. Filed right next to "common sense" in the drawer they never open.

As reported by Liberty Nation, the percentage of armed civilians jumped 5.5% — from 24.3% to 29.8% — between December 2024 and May 2026. That's a significant spike, and it tracks perfectly with something else that's been happening: crime has been dropping. Funny how that works.

The numbers get even more fun when you do the math. In a group of just 10 random American adults, there's now a 33.7% chance that at least one of them is carrying a firearm. Scale that up to 100 adults and the probability jumps to 98.4%. That's not a statistic — that's a deterrent. Every mugger, carjacker, and home invader in America just got a new reason to reconsider their career choices.

But wait, there's more.

Defensive gun use in America happens an estimated 500,000 to 3 million times per year, according to studies tracked by the Heritage Foundation's Data Visualization database. That's up to 3 million times a year that a good guy with a gun stopped something bad from happening — and most of those incidents never make the evening news because they don't fit the narrative.

Here's the part that really torches the left's favorite talking points. Women now make up 45.1% of those who carry a firearm all or most of the time. In Constitutional Carry states, that number climbs to 47.5%. And between 2015 and 2024, female permit applications grew 112% faster than men's. Black permit applications? They grew 284% faster than white applications over the same period.

So much for the left's fantasy that gun ownership is just a bunch of old white guys in bass boats. The Second Amendment is becoming more diverse, more female, and more popular by the day. The Democratic Party's gun control platform isn't just wrong — it's patronizing to the very communities they claim to champion.

And when the survey asked what would most help fight crime, the responses were a masterclass in common sense. Only 29.6% said "more gun control laws." Meanwhile, 31.4% said we should enforce the laws already on the books, and 30.8% said we should arrest repeat criminals. In other words, the majority of Americans — across all demographics — think the answer isn't fewer guns. It's fewer criminals walking free.

Grandpa has been saying this since 1965. Science finally caught up.

The gun control crowd will ignore this study the way they ignore every inconvenient dataset. They'll pivot to emotion, trot out the same tired slogans, and pretend that disarming law-abiding citizens is somehow the path to safety. But the numbers don't lie, even when politicians do. More Americans are armed, more women are armed, more minorities are armed — and crime is going down. That's not a coincidence. That's the Second Amendment doing exactly what the Founders intended.
