A protester wearing a papier-mâché mask of Charlie Kirk staged a mock assassination outside the Turning Point USA Women's Leadership Summit in San Antonio this weekend while, inside, a heckler interrupted Kirk's widow Erika during her speech. Two attacks. One family. Zero shame.
But remember, we're the ones who need lectures about "civility."
The Turning Point USA Women's Leadership Summit was held at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter, drawing hundreds of young women for the conservative organization's marquee event. Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow and new CEO of Turning Point USA, was set to deliver remarks. What should have been a powerful moment turned into a showcase of exactly how low the left is willing to go.
Outside the venue, a protester donned a papier-mâché mask made to resemble the late Charlie Kirk, then collapsed to the ground in a grotesque re-enactment of his assassination. A mob surrounding the display shouted that Kirk "deserved to die." The protester also screamed through a megaphone that attendees were "protecting pedophiles" and "protecting Nazis" — because of course they were.
They mocked a dead man. At an event honoring his legacy. In front of people who loved him.
Meanwhile, inside the ballroom, Erika Kirk took the stage — and a heckler immediately disrupted her speech, screaming that she "protects pedophiles."
Here's where the story gets interesting, though. Erika Kirk didn't crumble. She didn't have security drag the heckler out while she hid backstage. She stopped her prepared remarks and said directly: "It's important to remember that happiness comes and goes, and I pray that you find it." She told the room: "You pray for those that persecute you."
The ballroom erupted in applause.
That's the difference, isn't it? One side mocks the dead and screams at widows. The other side prays for the people screaming at them. And somehow, we're the hateful ones.
It gets worse. According to Patriot News Alerts, 26-year-old Jacob Wenske was arrested in connection with the event on felony charges for terroristic threats, including bomb threats targeting the summit. So we've gone from protesting to death mockery to literal bomb threats. The escalation ladder doesn't seem to have a top rung with these people.
Let's be clear about what happened here. Hundreds of young conservative women gathered for a leadership summit. A widow summoned the courage to speak publicly about carrying on her late husband's mission. And the left's response was to mock his murder outside, heckle his widow inside, and allegedly threaten to bomb the building.
This is who they are. Remember that the next time they lecture us about "tone" and "decency" and "threats to democracy." They re-enacted a man's assassination with a papier-mâché head and shouted that he deserved it. There is no floor.
Erika Kirk showed more grace in ten seconds than that entire mob has shown in their collective lifetimes. She buried her husband, took the reins of his organization, and when confronted by the worst humanity has to offer, she prayed for them.
That's strength. The papier-mâché crowd wouldn't know it if it hit them in the face.
