Nancy Pelosi held her congressional seat for nearly 40 years, and apparently retirement doesn't mean she's done deciding who runs San Francisco. The former House Speaker just threw her endorsement behind City Supervisor Connie Chan for her old congressional seat — torpedoing State Senator Scott Wiener, the openly gay Democrat who had been polling as the top contender in the race.

So much for the "party of inclusion." Turns out the most progressive city in America still runs on one old woman's approval.

Pelosi's endorsement, reported by the Daily Wire's Virginia Kruta, landed like a grenade in an already crowded primary field ahead of the June 2 election. Wiener's state senate district overlaps substantially with Pelosi's old congressional district, and by every conventional measure — name recognition, polling, political experience — he should have been the frontrunner. But conventional measures don't mean squat when Nancy Pelosi has a grudge.

And oh, does she have grudges. Comedian Kate Willett summed it up perfectly: "Nancy Pelosi hates Scott Wiener on a personal level, and Saikat tried to unseat her; she's trying to settle scores." That "Saikat" would be Saikat Chakrabarti, the tech entrepreneur and former chief of staff to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is also running for the seat. So Pelosi isn't just picking favorites — she's punishing enemies.

The old girl's endorsement statement was peak Pelosi, dripping with the kind of hollow Democratic platitudes that would make a Hallmark card blush. "I know and love this district, I know the Congress, and I know Connie," Pelosi declared. "I'm proud to endorse Democrat Connie Chan and ask you to join me in electing her to Congress."

She wasn't done. Pelosi went on to gush that Chan "understands San Francisco — our values, our diversity, our communities, and our responsibility to lead with both compassion and strength. She's a mom who knows her power and knows her why. I am confident Connie is ready to bring clarity and purpose to the work ahead — For The Children."

For The Children. She actually capitalized it. You can't make this stuff up.

Here's where it gets even juicier. Chan is trailing Wiener in campaign cash on hand, which means Pelosi's endorsement isn't about backing the strongest candidate — it's about installing the most obedient one. A well-funded, independently popular gay state senator doesn't need Queen Nancy's blessing to win. And that's exactly the problem.

There's also the matter of Christine Pelosi — Nancy's daughter — who has reportedly been eyeing a run at Wiener's state senate seat. Funny how that works. Mom clears the congressional lane for her handpicked loyalist, and suddenly there's an opening in the state senate for the Pelosi dynasty to fill. It's not a political endorsement — it's a real estate transaction.

The Democrats love to lecture us about democracy, representation, and letting every voice be heard. But behind closed doors in San Francisco, one 86-year-old woman still decides who gets to play and who gets sent home. Wiener checked every box on the progressive scorecard — gay, liberal, experienced, popular — and none of it mattered because he wasn't Nancy's pick.

Remember this the next time some Democrat lectures you about "threats to democracy." In their own backyard, the queen still picks the king.
